At the initiative of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, a traditional annual environmental campaign “Protect the Caspian Sea” was held on the occasion of September 16, the International Coastal Cleanup Day. The Red Hearts Foundation joined the campaign with the support of Kapital Bank. Within the framework of the project, the foundation's volunteers, consisting of Kapital Bank employees, took part in the garbage collection of the Bilgah coastal zone of the Caspian Sea.
About 1,000 volunteers joined the event, which has been held regularly for more than 10 years. The goal of the campaign is to improve the ecological situation in the country, enlighten the population in this area and disseminate the principles of responsible attitude towards the environment.
International Coastal Cleanup Day has been celebrated in more than 100 countries around the world for the past 30 years and is the largest volunteer movement on earth aimed at cleaning the shores of water bodies from waste. Azerbaijan has also been participating in this international environmental campaign for more than 10 years under the slogan “Protect the Caspian Sea”, and the scale of the campaign is growing every year. Information about the amount of waste collected during the campaign is sent to the Ocean Conservancy. These data are reflected in international country-by-country reports on the cleanup of the world's water bodies.
